Community Garden at Fareham Community Hospital officially opens

Issue date: 30.04.26

The new community garden at Fareham Community Hospital, Hampshire officially opened on 22 April. The garden has been funded by a generous donation from the family of the Late Alderman Brian Bayford, and has come to life through collaboration between Community Health Partnerships (CHP), Friends of Fareham, Solent Estates Partnership LIFTCo, and members of the local community.

What was a little‑used outdoor area has been reimagined as a lively and uplifting space, shaped through months of collaboration, care and commitment. The garden now offers a welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors alike—somewhere to step away from busy clinical settings, reconnect with others and find a sense of ease through nature.

Designed with wellbeing at its heart, the space encourages moments of quiet reflection as well as shared experience, recognising the powerful role that natural surroundings can play in recovery and mental health. This approach reflects the wider purpose of NHS LIFT buildings: not only to provide healthcare services, but to create settings that support community life and connection.

As part of a broader network of community gardens across the NHS LIFT estate, the Fareham garden contributes to preventative health by fostering inclusion, supporting emotional resilience and promoting social interaction. In doing so, it offers a calm, restorative backdrop that enhances both physical and emotional wellbeing.

The hospital forms part of the Solent Estates Partnership LIFTCo estate, gbpartnerships provides asset management services to this site via the gbp manage division.

"Seeing this project come to life is partnership at its very best. Solent Estates Partnership is delighted to support work driven by the passion and commitment of local volunteers and the community, creating spaces that promote wellbeing and deliver real benefits for patients, staff, and local people." Representatives from Solent Estates Partnership LIFTCo.

A project at Brune Medical Centre, Gosport (a Solent Estates Partnership LIFTCo delivered healthcare facility) costing £875k, funded by Community Health Partnerships, to remodel underutilised space has reached financial close. This will allow the expansion of the Talking Therapies service delivered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIOW) Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust relocate to a purpose-built space in a modern, accessible health centre within the heart of the Gosport community. It will provide a high-quality therapeutic environment for service users and NHS staff.

"We’re proud to support the transformation of Brune Medical Centre and to play our part in bringing much needed mental health services closer to the community. By repurposing underused space into high quality therapy accommodation, this project demonstrates the real value that collaborative estate solutions can deliver for local people. Rowner Health Centre,
Dental School Feasibility study

Issue date: 02.02.26

A transformational feasibility study was completed, exploring the opportunity to repurpose unused space at Rowner Health Centre into a new community‑focused dental school.

The study sets out how converting this void estate into a 12‑chair dental teaching facility could unlock significant NHS productivity benefits, expand local dental training capacity and create a long‑term, sustainable clinical education environment.

Working closely with clinical, academic, technical and estates stakeholders, a shared, evidence‑based vision for a facility that meets both patient needs and University requirements was developed. The resulting feasibility package provides clear, viable design options, programme, procurement strategy, capital costs and risk considerations — giving partners a robust foundation for informed decision‑making and progression to the next stage of development.
